Time to move on

What could be nicer than a cup of hot chocolate, wood burning in the stove, and family and friends playing games!

Heavy heart

The past couple of days my heart has been heavy.  I learned that a close family friend was sentenced to 8 years in jail for sexual abuse of a child.  You wonder....how could this happen?  He has been an active church member for years (the abuse did not involve anyone at his church).  How did this go undetected for so long?  What went wrong?  How could this have been prevented?  There are probably many answers and many, many more questions.

It makes you realize we are all, any one of us, capable of heinous sin if sin is left unchecked.  What begins as a sinful curiosity or thought progresses in microsteps until we can get ensnared in the unimaginable.  We need to be living transparent lives around our brothers and sisters in Christ so sins of the heart can be addressed early before they spill out in horrible behavior.  Unfortunately, most of the Body of Christ is pretty committed to putting up a church face that doesn't promote "bearing one another's burdens" and struggles or addressing sin.  God help us.  God help me.

Scooterville

Today we bought a 2006 Honda Metropolitan.  It's the cutest little 49cc scooter ever.  Since Diana needs to take a car to college because her ride fizzled, we need another vehicle.  The advantage of a scooter is that you don't have to register or license it and you don't need insurance, which in our neighborhood is no small deal.  On the downside, it could easily get stolen.  It gets between 80 and 150 mpg.  Tim will be riding it back and forth to work; Karen and I will share the minivan.  Of course, both Karen and Diana had to try it out today too.  If I knew how to get a picture on here I'd let you see it.  Alas.

Huckabee for President?

I am seriously thinking about supporting Mike Huckabee for President.  After checking out his position on issues, I am very impressed with his ability to see the big picture and address problems at their root, rather than just the symptoms.  He has some fresh ideas that I would like to explore a bit more.  The fact that he is a Christian is just icing on the cake.  You can check out his positions on issues at this website:  http://www.mikehuckabee.com/index.cfm?FuseAction=VerticalDay.Home&l=CC7CCFF3AA37934755356CB8514F4377
